Stock and wire fencing available in wide selection
Here at R.M.Smith Fencing, we install stock and wire fencing in Ringwood & surrounding areas. Stock and wire fencing is suitable for the demarcation of fields, to assist with stock management and for the exclusion of animals, then a simple solution in the form of stock netting, plain wire, barbed wire and wire netting (chicken wire) are good options.
There is a wide variety of stock netting and wire netting to fence in or out a variety of animals: horses, deer, sheep, rabbits, pheasants, badgers, ostrich, chicken, etc.
Stock fencing is generally a rectangular wire mesh with horizontal wires set at gradually increasing centres to provide less penetration at the bottom than at the top. There are different stock nets suggested for different uses/animals: for example, deer fencing should be between 1.8 and 2m high, but pig/sheep netting could be between 800mm and 1.2m high. Deer fencing is usually erected on round timber posts driven into the ground but can be provided on steel angle posts, and these could be concreted into the ground, but this will of course bump the price up.
An alternative style of deer fencing is the strained wire style. This comprises of posts driven into ground and several line wires run between the posts, dropper bars are then fitted to the line wires, this prevents the wires being parted and deer are therefore unable to get through the fencing.
Plain wire and barbed wire are inexpensive options for simple boundary demarcation and as with deer netting are erected on timber posts driven into the ground at approx. 3m centres, all helping to keep the costs down.
For poultry and rabbits, wire netting is a good option. Basically a thin gauge wire woven in a hexagonal pattern, with the hexagonal holes ranging in size from 13mm—50mm and the netting ranging in height from 450mm—1.8m high. Again erected on timber posts, but where it is being used for the exclusion of rabbits then it is suggested to bury the netting below ground.
All of the fencing here can be used as temporary fencing, and that being the case another option is chestnut pale. Find out more about variety of options with stock and wire fencing in Ringwood today by calling us today!

Deer fencing – safe deterrent to deer
Generally this style of fencing is 1.8-2.0m high and is most often erected on 3-4” round timber posts which are driven into the ground at approximately 3m centres. The style of fencing is based on stock netting, which is available in a galvanised finish in a range of heights. For the exclusion of deer, it is not recommended that anything less than 1.8m is used.
Approximately, the vertical wires are spaced at 150mm apart, the 23 horizontal line wires are spaced at 102mm at the bottom and increase gradually to a spacing of 178mm at the top. Different manufacturers produce slightly different variations, but they all generally follow the same pattern; the main difference would be the spacing of the horizontal wires.
Deer fencing can be provided on steel angle posts, and these could be concreted into the ground, but this will of course bump the price up.
An alternative style of deer fencing is the strained wire style. This comprises of posts driven into ground and several line wires run between the posts, dropper bars are then fitted to the line wires, this prevents the wires being parted and deer are therefore unable to get through the fencing.
